Hostile Terrain 94 is an exhibition designed to raise awareness about the brutal impact of America’s southern border enforcement strategy known as “Prevention Through Deterrence.” This strategy has led to the deaths of thousands of people since its inception in 1994.
Here are some frequently asked questions:
Where will this exhibition be shown?
We are looking for 94 locations around the globe to host this exhibition.
How much does this exhibition cost to host?
We are predicting that the installation kit will cost approximately $1500 USD including all materials and shipping. This also includes access to online content, an augmented reality component of the exhibition that can be accessed via a free cell phone app, and access to a documentary film called “Border South.”
Can anyone host this exhibition?
We are looking for partners of all sizes from communities around the globe. This includes museums, book stores, schools (e.g., universities and high schools), NGOs, churches, community organizations, and generally anyone with the time and energy required to host the exhibition. We are interested in working with anyone so please don’t hesitate to contact us for additional information.
When will this happen?
Hostile Terrain 94 will launch in 94 locations during the month of September in 2020.
What if I have never hosted an exhibition before?
Our team of people will work closely with you (our hosting partners) to provide support for how to organize people in your community to get involved, how to install the exhibition in your specific location (i.e, how to work with your available space), and how to supplement the exhibition with locally relevant programming.
What about other events?
We anticipate that every hosting location will coordinate some additional programming about immigration and migration that will happen alongside the exhibition. This includes things like film screenings, workshops, lectures, musical events, etc. We will work with our hosting partners to help develop locally relevant programming for your specific community needs. In addition, the exhibition package comes with access to the documentary “Border South” that examines the Central American migrant trail across Mexico and what happens to migrants in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.
When do I have to commit?
Because of the time required to organize the pop-up, we anticipate having all partners confirmed by the end of the fall 2019. Space is filling up fast so please contact as soon as possible if you are interested in hosting.
